Aldi plans £900m UK investment and more than 40 new stores

The retailer reported record annual revenue of £19bn, with sales up 5% year over year, while UK and Ireland profits fell to £433m.

Aldi said it will step up investment in the UK, planning to spend £900m and open more than 40 additional stores next year.

The supermarket chain reported record annual revenue of £19bn, with sales rising 5% to that level.

Aldi operates 1,092 budget supermarkets across the UK and Ireland and said it already has “increasing confidence” in its growth plans, positioning the business as the third largest UK supermarket by items sold and customer numbers.

However, the company also reported that profits slipped by £2.6m to £433m as it cut prices despite cost inflation.
