EUR/JPY slips as yen gains on Japan intervention fears
The yen rose versus major peers in European trading, with EUR/JPY down 0.4% near 178.40.
Japan’s yen strengthened against major currency peers in European trading on Monday, lifting support from verbal warnings about potential currency intervention. FXStreet said the EUR/JPY pair fell 0.4% to near 178.40.
FXStreet also cited earlier comments from Japan’s top currency diplomat Atsushi Mimura, who said markets should take at face value a clear message delivered by Tokyo and Washington last week on the yen, signaling resolve to act against excessive falls in the currency.
The outlet added that the yen was the strongest against the Swiss franc among the listed major currencies, based on its day’s comparison table.
