Oil prices and US Treasury yields push Fed hike fears into stock futures
Dow Jones futures were down 0.35% and Nasdaq 100 futures fell 0.97% during European hours, as Treasury yields climbed to multi-decade highs.
FXStreet said Dow Jones futures fell 0.35% to trade near 51,970 during European hours on Monday. S&P 500 futures were down 0.47% to around 7,770, while Nasdaq 100 futures lost 0.97% to near 30,590.
The outlet attributed the decline in US stock futures to elevated oil prices, which it said intensified global inflation concerns and reinforced expectations of a tighter monetary policy stance.
FXStreet also pointed to a rise in US Treasury yields to multi-decade highs. It linked the move to expectations for further Federal Reserve rate increases and anxiety over expanding government debt.
Looking ahead, FXStreet said market participants were focused on key economic data scheduled for the week, including upcoming US employment reports and the Federal Reserve’s preferred inflation metric, after central bank comments solidified hawkish policy expectations.
