Barclays eases UK return to office rules after staff backlash
The bank pushed back its attendance requirement for 45,000 UK employees, letting some delay being in the workplace at least three days a week until 2027 with permission.
Barclays has softened its return to office plans for its 45,000 staff in the United Kingdom after a backlash from employees, according to the Guardian Business. The bank will allow some workers to delay the requirement to be in the workplace at least three days a week until 2027, if they have permission.
Barclays originally said the attendance requirement would take effect from 5 October, with more senior employees expected to be in at least four days. The prior rules required staff to come in for two days.
The change follows thousands of staff signing an open letter drafted by the Unite union, the Guardian Business said. The letter called for payouts to help cover travel costs and an exemption for employees who live more than 40 minutes from work.
