California police arrest 77-year-old couple in son-in-law killing

Authorities in Dublin, east of San Francisco, said a 77-year-old couple was arrested on suspicion of murder after a son-in-law was fatally shot in a city park over the weekend.

The victim, Jonathan McKinsey, a 40-year-old gaming engineer for The New York Times, was shot Saturday afternoon in the car park of a sports complex, and a nearby police sergeant reported seeing him on the ground as witnesses called 911.

Police said Shouyong Zhang and Shili Chen, both 77 and from Dublin, were due to appear in court Wednesday morning on suspicion of murder and other charges.

Court documents cited by the outlet said McKinsey had been involved in a bitter custody dispute with his daughter, and the killing occurred a week before a hearing scheduled in McKinsey and Candice Jang’s divorce case.
