Copper holds above $14,400 as Chile strike risk escalates
Three-month copper futures were up 0.2% to $14,446 a tonne in London, as workers at Antofagasta’s Centinela mine voted to strike.
Copper traded above $14,400 a tonne in London on Tuesday, supported by rising concerns about potential supply disruptions in Chile, according to Mining.com.
The outlet said three-month futures on the London Metal Exchange rose 0.2% to $14,446 a tonne by 12:50 p.m. local time, with the metal still on track for a third straight monthly gain.
Mining.com reported that workers in two unions at Antofagasta’s Centinela mine rejected the company’s final contract offer, triggering a mandatory mediation period before any walkout could begin.
The story also cited broader tightness signals, including refined copper stockpiling in US warehouses ahead of a possible import tariff and a Yangshan import premium near its highest level since 2022.
