Pew Research Center data cited by HousingWire shows 22% of the U.S. population lived in multigenerational households in 2024, up from 19% in 2010 and 16% in 2020.
HousingWire reports that Lennar is expanding its Next Gen, home within a home floor plans to target rising multigenerational living demand.
The builder’s Next Gen model, launched more than a decade ago, includes a private suite with its own entrance, bathroom, kitchenette, bedroom and living area.
HousingWire also points to Pew Research Center figures showing that 22% of the U.S. population lived in multigenerational households in 2024, higher than 19% in 2010 and 16% in 2020.
The outlet adds that homes marketed as multigenerational can sell for a 22% premium based on an estimate from Sotheby’s International Realty, and notes that Next Gen homes are built in high growth markets such as Arizona and Florida.
