US consumer confidence slips in September as USD firms
The Conference Board said its Present Situation Index fell 7.9 points to 109.3 and its Expectations Index declined 5.9 points to 63.6.
US consumer sentiment lost momentum in September, with the Conference Board’s Consumer Confidence Index dropping to 81.9 from August’s 88.6, which was revised from 89.4, according to FXStreet. FXStreet added that the Present Situation Index retreated 7.9 points to 109.3, while the Expectations Index fell 5.9 points to 63.6 for a third consecutive monthly decline. The report noted the survey period for the preliminary results ran from September 1 to 23 and included a federal funds rate hike and ongoing geopolitical tensions. FXStreet said the US dollar gained, regaining upside traction and reaching fresh multi week highs in the 101.40 to 101.50 band, alongside steady uncertainty around the Middle East crisis and rising US Treasury yields.
