Bitget hackers move 2,746 ZEC into Zcash’s shielded pool
The Zcash transfer, worth about $3.9 million, follows attempts to route more than $50 million through a cross-chain protocol that largely rejected those transactions.
Hackers linked to Bitget’s $387.5 million breach have reportedly shifted part of the stolen crypto into Zcash’s privacy infrastructure, sending about 2,746 ZEC into the network’s Ironwood shielded pool through three transactions, according to on-chain activity flagged by blockchain investigator ZachXBT, as reported by CryptoSlate.
The 2,746 ZEC transfer is described as about 15% of the 18,917 ZEC stolen from the exchange. CryptoSlate reports that moves inside Ironwood can conceal sender, recipient, and amount details, which makes it harder for investigators to trace the stolen assets back to the hack.
CryptoSlate also says the shift to Zcash follows attempts by the attackers to move more than $50 million through a cross-chain service. It reports NEAR Intents General Manager Alex Shevchenko said wallets tied to the theft attempted to process more than $50 million through the protocol, and its SHIELD risk system rejected most of those transactions.
