Catrina Gemmerich named to succeed Stephan Wirz at VIG Re

Gemmerich is scheduled to assume her roles when Wirz’s term ends on 1 March 2027, after a structured handover subject to regulator approval.

VIG Re, the reinsurance arm of Vienna Insurance Group, appointed Catrina Gemmerich to succeed Stephan Wirz as a Member of the Board of Management and Chief Business Officer (CBO).

Gemmerich will take up the roles on 1 March 2027, with the transition effective on the same date following a structured handover period, subject to approval by the regulator, after a vote by the firm’s Supervisory Board.

Currently, Gemmerich is Managing Director of VIG Re Germany and Market Head of DACH, Nordics, and Southern Europe and VIG Group business, a position she has held since February 2023.

VIG Re said the move follows Wirz, who joined the Board of Management on 1 May 2021 and has almost three decades of reinsurance experience, after previously spending 24 years at Swiss Re, including leadership roles such as the Korean Branch and Japan P&C.
