Core PCE data on tap as markets gauge Fed outlook

BEA is set to release August core PCE at 12:30 GMT, with forecasts calling for 0.3% month-over-month growth and 3.4% annualized.

FXStreet said the US Bureau of Economic Analysis will publish the August Personal Consumption Expenditures Price Index on Wednesday at 12:30 GMT, a key reading for how markets price Federal Reserve policy.

The outlet noted that market participants closely track core PCE, excluding volatile food and energy. Expectations call for core PCE to rise 0.3% month-over-month in August, up from 0.2% in July, while the annualized figure is seen at 3.4%, slightly above 3.3% the prior month.

FXStreet added that the PCE inflation print could shape expectations for the Fed’s remaining meetings of the year. The newsletter also pointed to the Fed’s September decision to raise rates by 25 basis points to a 3.75% to 4.00% target range, highlighting that higher energy costs from the Middle East war have been pressuring living costs.
