Petrobras builds two Cardano apps to track SAF and renewable diesel claims

Petrobras’ two Cardano-based applications are designed to tokenize sustainability attributes and use a book-and-claim model to help prevent duplicate use of the same claim.

Petrobras has developed two blockchain applications built on Cardano to track sustainability data linked to sustainable aviation fuel and renewable fuel, as part of an ongoing research collaboration, the Cardano Foundation said in a Wednesday announcement.

The first application, developed with PUC-Rio’s Ledger Labs, tokenizes environmental attributes associated with sustainable aviation fuel into digital tokens intended to reduce the risk that the same sustainability claim is used more than once.

The application uses a book-and-claim model, which the announcement says allows environmental attributes to be tracked through issuance and redemption under that framework.

Petrobras said it is using Cardano across both sustainable aviation fuel and its Diesel R renewable fuel tracking efforts, with the second application also described as Cardano-based in the announcement.
