SlowMist links Bitget hack to Aug. 31 zero-day exploit
SlowMist said the earliest activity tied to the $388 million Bitget theft began on Aug. 31, before funds were drained from hot wallets on Sept. 24.
SlowMist traced the earliest logged malicious activity associated with Bitget’s $388 million theft to Aug. 31, when an attacker exploited a zero-day vulnerability affecting a third-party security product, Cointelegraph reports.
The investigation also pointed to a hidden script used by the attacker to access data, along with involvement from two third-party security products and a wallet application host.
SlowMist said the funds were stolen from Bitget’s hot wallets on Sept. 24 (UTC), with assets moved to addresses the attacker controlled across multiple blockchains, according to the outlet.
