Traders eye Europe flash inflation and US PCE data for fresh FX moves
Ahead of the releases, the ECB’s Schnabel and the Fed’s Barkin are scheduled to speak, while Riksbank minutes will come out at 9:30 CET.
Action Forex said investors are focused on fresh inflation releases in Europe and the US that could shape near term expectations for policy and currency moves. In the euro area, September flash inflation prints for Germany, France, and Italy are due, with the results expected to hint at where final euro area inflation may land on Friday.
In the US, Action Forex said August PCE inflation is scheduled for release in the afternoon. The outlet expects headline inflation to have risen from July levels of 0.2% month over month and 3.7% year over year, citing higher energy prices in August, and noted the Bureau of Economic Analysis will update methodology for some PCE subcomponents, which it said could provide relief to core inflation.
The calendar also includes central bank communication, Action Forex reported. It said ECB board member Isabel Schnabel and Fed official Raphael Bostic Barkin are set to deliver speeches, and minutes from the Riksbank’s September meeting will be published at 9:30 CET, after last week’s decision marked a significantly more restrictive shift in communication.
