US private payrolls rise 90K in September, ADP beats forecasts
The ADP report showed pay growth stayed firm, with base pay up 3.2% year over year and gross pay up 4.7% year over year.
US private-sector employment increased by 90K in September, according to the ADP report, beating economists expectations for a 70K gain.
The rebound followed softer hiring in prior months, with September accelerating from a revised 36K rise in August. Goods-producing industries added 31K jobs, while services contributed 59K, including manufacturing up 17K and construction up 15K.
Hiring gains were concentrated, with education and health services adding 55K jobs and leisure and hospitality gaining 22K to account for most of the increase. By contrast, professional and business services shed 11K jobs and financial activities lost 16K, while trade, transportation and utilities were unchanged.
Pay growth remained firm without a new acceleration, the report said. Base pay rose 3.2% year over year and gross pay increased 4.7% year over year, with job-changers continuing to see a larger wage premium than workers who stayed with their employers.
