Catastrophe bonds hit above-average issuance pace after strong Q3

Q3 issuance totaled $948 million across 10 transactions and 15 tranches, keeping the market on track for new records.

Catastrophe bond issuance stayed above average in the third quarter, sustaining momentum toward record levels of risk capital, according to Artemis. The report says Q3 brought $948 million of new issuance, following a record first half.

Artemis found that total cat bond issuance for the first nine months of 2026 reached $18.9 billion, a new record for the period. The quarter’s $948 million came from 10 transactions, encompassing 15 tranches of notes.

The report also highlights that repeat sponsors accounted for most of the issuance volume. It attributes two of the quarter’s largest deals to global reinsurers Swiss Re and Hannov.
