Flydubai stabbing incident renews debate over locked cockpit doors
Guardian Business reports that a co-pilot attack on a flight crew, during which a wounded pilot and passengers helped prevent Flydubai flight FZ 1073 from crashing, has reignited scrutiny of whether cockpit doors should be locked from the inside.
The outlet says expert opinion remains divided about changes to plane design made after the terrorist hijackings in the United States, which involved locking cockpit doors from the inside.
Guardian Business notes that the aircraft carried more than 170 people, mostly Israeli, on the route from Dubai to Tel Aviv.
The report also highlights that some passengers spoke about preventing what they described as “Israel’s 9/11,” while the investigation continues and the motive behind the stabbing remains unknown.
