France budget strains seen as weighing on Eurozone fiscal outlook
BBH said France’s minority deficit plan targeting a 5.0% of GDP deficit next year may face parliamentary hurdles.
Brown Brothers Harriman’s Elias Haddad warned that France’s budget crisis is deepening and complicating Eurozone fiscal dynamics, citing parliamentary hurdles for the country’s minority government deficit-reduction plan.
According to FXStreet, the plan aims to cut France’s deficit to 5.0% of GDP next year, but the fiscal watchdog has questioned the assumptions as optimistic, and BBH doubts the proposal will clear parliament without significant concessions.
BBH also flagged that a likely rollover of the 2026 budget could push the deficit higher, moving France further from its EU commitment to bring the deficit below 3.0% of GDP by 2029.
