Japan finance minister will promote subsidy fund review plan

Katayama said there are about 200 existing funds worth roughly 7 trillion yen, as part of a push to expand the effort.

Japanese Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama said Friday she will increase efforts to promote Japan’s version of a “doge” review of subsidies and funds.

Katayama added that there are about 200 existing funds, totaling about 7 trillion yen, according to FXStreet.

Economy Minister Minoru Kiuchi said he hopes the Bank of Japan continues close communication with the government on guiding policy and said Japan no longer needs extraordinary monetary stimulus after the BoJ ended yield curve control.

Kiuchi declined to comment on monetary policy, saying it falls under the BoJ’s jurisdiction, FXStreet reported.
