Tokyo inflation accelerates in September, core-core CPI rises to 3.0%
Core CPI excluding fresh food climbed to 2.7% year over year, and core-core CPI excluding fresh food and energy surged to 3.0% as services inflation strengthened.
Tokyo inflation accelerated in September, with headline CPI rising from 1.9% to 2.7% year over year, according to Action Forex.
The report said core CPI excluding fresh food increased from 1.8% to 2.7%, beating the 2.4% consensus, while core-core CPI excluding fresh food and energy jumped from 2.0% to 3.0%.
On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, headline, core, and core-core prices rose 0.6%, 0.9%, and 0.7%, respectively, indicating a pickup in September price momentum.
Action Forex also noted energy prices stayed slightly negative at -1.9% year over year, services inflation rose from 1.4% to 2.3%, and administrative effects boosted the headline increase, including water charges up 65.6% year over year.
