Ken Griffin pledges $3bn to Carnegie Mellon for Miami campus
About $1bn is earmarked for Carnegie Mellon’s computer science school, which will be renamed the Kenneth C Griffin School of Computer Science.
Citadel founder and CEO Ken Griffin is donating $3bn to Carnegie Mellon University to support its Pittsburgh operations and to establish a new campus in Miami, according to Reuters as reported by Hedgeweek.
The gift will back academic recruitment, financial aid, and the expansion of Carnegie Mellon’s computer science programs, with most of the funding directed toward the Miami campus in the Wynwood neighborhood.
Hedgeweek reports that the university said about $1bn of the donation will go to the computer science school and other priorities, and that the school is set to be renamed the Kenneth C Griffin School of Computer Science.
The Miami campus is expected to focus on areas including human health and biodiversity, national security, energy and climate resilience, and advanced manufacturing and industrial transformation, Hedgeweek added.
