Near Intents halted after attacker drained about $3.8 million

The cross-chain swap service said the issue stemmed from a bug in its Omni deposit and withdrawal layer interaction with its NEAR Intents smart contract.

Near Intents, a tool for swapping crypto across different blockchains, stopped service on Thursday after an attacker drained about $3.8 million, according to Decrypt.

The team said the incident was caused by a bug in how its Omni deposit and withdrawal infrastructure interacted with the NEAR Intents smart contract, the self running code that holds user funds.

Decrypt also reports the exploit came shortly after Near Intents had blocked a $50 million swap attempt from a Bitget hacker, who recently stole about $387.5 million from the crypto exchange.

The outlet added that it is not yet clear whether the incidents are related, and Near Intents said it would repay every user.
