Tennessee execution botch leaves inmate in critical care, lawyer says
Her lawyer urged Governor Bill Lee to scrap Pike’s death sentence after she survived two doses of pentobarbital, then was taken to a hospital Wednesday night.
A condemned woman, Christa Pike, survived two lethal injections during a botched execution in Tennessee, and her lawyer said she was in critical condition and receiving “life-saving care” as of Thursday.
According to the lawyer, Pike was taken from the prison execution chamber to a hospital on Wednesday night and remained alive despite two doses of pentobarbital.
In a virtual news conference, Randy Spivey said he would not provide further details on her condition.
Spivey urged Governor Bill Lee, who had denied a clemency request earlier in the week, to scrap Pike’s death sentence, according to SCMP Economy and an accompanying Agence France-Presse account.
