THORChain refuses to block attacker-linked addresses after Bitget hack

After the Sept. 24 incident, about $387.5 million of stolen funds began moving across chains, including toward THORChain.

Cointelegraph reports that Bitget’s Sept. 24 hack triggered rapid movement of stolen funds across multiple blockchains, with some flowing toward the decentralized cross chain swaps platform THORChain.

The outlet says Bitget chief executive Gracy Chen publicly urged THORChain to refuse service to attacker-linked addresses, framing the issue as a test of whether “permissionless and decentralized” systems should still intervene when theft is involved.

According to Cointelegraph, THORChain refused the request, which sparked a broader debate between those who argue protocols have a moral obligation to block stolen funds and those who prioritize decentralization ideals.

Cointelegraph also notes that the episode was tied to Bitget’s roughly $387.7 million of hacked funds, with $387.5 million of stolen assets beginning to move across chains soon after the breach.
