UK FCA opens gateway for new 2027 crypto authorization rules
The application window runs until Feb. 28, 2027, and the full regulatory regime is set to start Oct. 25, 2027.
The Financial Conduct Authority opened its authorization gateway for new UK crypto rules on Sept. 30, allowing eligible firms to apply for authorization while protecting certain services during the transition.
According to CryptoSlate, the FCA said the application window closes Feb. 28, 2027, and the full regime is scheduled to begin Oct. 25, 2027.
The FCA described a “saving provision,” which is available to qualifying existing firms that apply by the Feb. 28, 2027 deadline. If a firm’s application is undecided at commencement, the relevant services can continue, including taking new business.
The FCA also noted the protection is limited, it covers only the activities in the application, it expires two years after full commencement, and submitting an application does not guarantee authorization, with the FCA able to move firms into restricted run-off if needed.
