US sanctions French charities and individuals over alleged Hamas crypto
The Treasury said the designated parties helped collect more than $2 million for Hamas from 2020 to 2026, while separately alleging hundreds of thousands of dollars in cryptocurrency transfers to a Gaza-based Hamas commander.
The United States expanded sanctions tied to alleged Hamas financing by adding two French charities and three individuals to the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) list on Oct. 2, according to CryptoSlate.
OFAC said the group of designated parties helped channel cryptocurrency and other funds to Hamas, and Treasury alleged that the two France-based fundraisers sent hundreds of thousands of dollars in cryptocurrency to a Gaza-based Hamas deputy battalion commander in the group’s military wing.
Treasury also said the two fundraisers and associated organizations collected more than $2 million for Hamas between 2020 and 2026, while it did not claim that the full total involved digital-asset transfers, distinguishing the broader fundraising figure from the cryptocurrency transactions it attributed to the newly sanctioned parties.
