ASOS app users report extortion-style pop-up messages
The message claims attackers fully compromised an ASOS data platform tied to Snowflake and demands engagement or a leak.
BBC Business reports that ASOS users across the UK have received pop-up messages from the retailer's app that appear to be sent by hackers attempting to extort the company.
According to the outlet, dozens of people told the BBC they saw a message addressed to ASOS data protection officer and IT, saying the attackers had fully compromised the Snowflake instance and demanding engagement or a leak.
The message refers to Snowflake, a data storage and analytics provider used by many firms, and BBC Business says it is not yet known whether ASOS is a Snowflake customer or what data, if any, is stored through the service.
BBC Business added that Snowflake has been linked to multiple high-profile data breaches in recent years, though it remains unclear whether ASOS faces an active breach tied to the alleged compromise.
