ASOS shares drop after customer data access is reported
The company said it believes payment cards and passwords were not compromised as it investigates unauthorised access to app systems tied to customer notification platforms.
ASOS said it is investigating reports of a hack after customers received notifications claiming hackers had fully compromised its data. The retailer told customers that basic personal information, including names and contact details, might have been accessed by an unidentified third party, but it said it did not believe payment cards or passwords were compromised.
In a statement, ASOS said it was investigating unauthorised activity involving third party platforms it uses to communicate with customers. It said it took immediate action to restrict access to the notification platforms and is working with internal and external advisers as well as relevant authorities.
The report coincided with a sharp move in ASOS stock, with shares falling 11%. ASOS said its website and app remained online.
