Circle links DJ Khaled to USDC, sparking backlash on crypto X
Circle posted that rapper DJ Khaled joined “team USDC” after USDC’s X account shared an image of Khaled, with the company later sharing a message from CEO Jeremy Allaire.
Circle, the issuer behind the USDC stablecoin, posted on X to welcome rapper DJ Khaled to “team USDC,” prompting backlash from some users on crypto Twitter.
According to Decrypt, USDC’s official X account shared an image of Khaled wearing a Chelsea jersey with “USDC by Circle” on the front, captioned “Another one.” About four hours later, Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire reposted it and wrote a note to the rapper saying “DJ Khaled welcome to team USDC.”
Decrypt reported that neither post announced a sponsorship, ambassador role, or any payment, and the exchange appears more like a cheeky nod than a formal deal.
The controversy intensified online because of DJ Khaled’s prior connection to crypto promotions, with Decrypt citing user criticism that referenced his earlier SEC settlement over a crypto fraud he promoted.
