Google rolls out Nano Banana 2.1 for image generation and photo edits
The update is being rolled out across the Gemini app, Google Search AI Mode, Google Ads, and developer tools, and it costs about half as much as the earlier version based on Google’s tests.
Google has released Nano Banana 2.1, an updated AI image model that generates pictures from typed prompts and can edit photos already on hand, according to Decrypt.
The model is rolling out in the Gemini app, Google Search’s AI Mode, Google Ads, and developer tools including Google AI Studio, Flow, and Stitch.
Decrypt reports that Google positions the upgrade around improved visual design, sharper mask-based editing where a user selects a region to change, and better subject consistency so people or objects keep their look across edits.
Decrypt also said Nano Banana 2.1 runs at about half the price of its predecessor, while performance claims are based on Google’s own testing.
