Winklevoss twins file for a spot Zcash ETF on Nasdaq
The proposed fund, to trade under the ticker WINK, would charge a 0.25% sponsor fee and name Gemini as the custodian for cold-stored ZEC.
Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss have filed an S-1 with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to launch a spot Zcash exchange traded fund, reflecting renewed institutional interest in the privacy coin, according to Decrypt. The proposed trust would hold ZEC directly and aim to track Zcash’s price, giving investors exposure through traditional brokerage accounts rather than buying and storing the token themselves.
The fund is set to trade on Nasdaq under the ticker WINK, with a 0.25% sponsor fee. Gemini would act as custodian, holding the trust’s ZEC in cold storage, while Winklevoss Capital Fund has indicated interest in purchasing up to $100 million of shares, a non binding commitment noted in the filing.
The trust also lists Cypherpunk Technologies, a Winklevoss-backed Zcash treasury company, as its Zcash Ecosystem Partner, to advise on protocol matters and coinholder voting. The filing comes as Zcash, a privacy-focused coin that uses zk-SNARKs to shield transaction sender, recipient, and amount, has seen a resurgence.
