Anthropic releases Claude Haiku 5.5 as its lowest-cost model
Anthropic set pricing for Haiku 5.5 at $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output tokens for prompts up to 100,000 tokens.
Anthropic has released Claude Haiku 5.5, positioning it as its cheapest, fastest, and most capable small model. The company said it is aimed at high-volume tasks like summarizing documents and querying databases, along with speed-sensitive work such as live customer support and operating a web browser for the user.
Pricing for developers using Haiku 5.5 is $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output tokens, for prompts up to 100,000 tokens. Anthropic also said prompts above 100,000 tokens receive a 50% cut, and it claims the change translates to about 75% lower average run costs versus the prior Haiku 4.5.
Anthropic said Haiku 5.5 is designed for repetitive, easy, non-creative tasks, and noted that about 90% of requests to the older model fell under the 100,000-token threshold. The company also said Haiku 4.5 had charged $1 for input and $5 for output, before the new rate takes effect.
The new release comes 15 days after Anthropic launched Opus 5.5, according to Decrypt. Anthropic’s announcement also referenced token pricing practices used by AI vendors, describing tokens as small chunks of text that AI models read and write.
