Civil rights groups warn private home listings could restrict access for buyers
HousingWire notes NAR data that about 90% of U.S. home sellers are white, a gap the groups say could be amplified if listings are withheld from MLS distribution.
Civil rights groups are warning that private home listings that are withheld from MLS distribution could reduce consumer access to housing inventory and fragment market data, according to HousingWire.
The groups argue that limiting MLS exposure could raise barriers for first-time buyers of color and create longer-term risks for equal opportunity and wealth building.
HousingWire also points to demographic disparities cited by the groups, including NAR data that about 90% of U.S. home sellers are white.
The statement further cites reported housing discrimination, including more than 32,000 reported acts in 2024, and says discrimination remains a current issue rather than only a legacy of past practices.
