Energy stocks have surged over the past year, helped by VDE
Vanguard Energy ETF (VDE) returned 93.6% over the last 12 months, versus 23.9% for the S&P 500, according to Benzinga.
Energy stocks include companies involved in producing, exploring, refining, or transporting fuel sources such as coal, oil, and gas, as well as related equipment and energy services, Benzinga reports.
The sector can also include companies tied to renewable energy, while nonrenewable energy firms focus on resources with limited availability, the outlet adds.
Benzinga highlights Vanguard Energy ETF (VDE) as a standout, saying it has broadly outperformed the broader market with a 93.6% return over the past 12 months compared with 23.9% total returns for the S&P 500.
The story also names major energy companies such as Exxon Mobil, Marathon Petroleum, Chevron Corp., and ConocoPhillips as examples within the sector.
