ESMA orders EU crypto firms to stop non-MiCA stablecoin services
ESMA directed national regulators to require firms to manage remaining exposures by Jan. 8, 2027, and warned that MiCA-authorized providers must cease related services.
The European Securities and Markets Authority has urged EU crypto firms to stop providing services tied to stablecoins that are not compliant with the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation framework, Cointelegraph reports.
ESMA said national regulators should require authorized crypto-asset service providers to address remaining exposures to non-compliant stablecoins as soon as possible, but no later than Jan. 8, 2027.
Cointelegraph adds that the deadline gives firms a three-month window to bring existing stablecoin exposures into compliance or exit the affected services.
