EU securities regulator gives crypto firms 3 months to cut off unapproved stablecoins

ESMA said authorized platforms must block new access to stablecoins that do not meet MiCA rules, while national regulators oversee holders’ existing positions.

CoinDesk reports that the EU securities regulator, ESMA, has given crypto platforms three months to remove unauthorized stablecoins from their services.

ESMA said authorized platforms must block new access to stablecoins that fail to meet the EU’s MiCA rules.

According to CoinDesk, national authorities will handle oversight of existing customer holdings, rather than ESMA taking direct control of those positions.
