Euro rises versus yen as Japan current account beats estimates

EUR/JPY was up 0.14% to about 177.15 during Asian trade after Japan reported a larger August current account surplus.

The euro rebounded against the Japanese yen in Asian trade on Thursday, rising 0.14% to around 177.15, according to FXStreet.

FXStreet said the EUR/JPY move followed a sharp downside move on Wednesday, even though the yen underperformed after Japan released strong trade and balance of payments data, including an August Current Account surplus.

The outlet reported that Japan's current account surplus increased to 4,062 billion yen in August, beating the 3,194 billion yen estimate and up from 2,988 billion in the prior release.

FXStreet also pointed to comments from Bank of Japan policymaker Ayano Sato, who said she supports raising interest rates in several stages.
