House panel chair says SEC and CFTC actions fall short of crypto clarity bill

Representative French Hill said lawmakers could still pass a cryptocurrency market structure bill before the next Congress session in 2027.

Representative French Hill, chair of the House Financial Services Committee, said actions by US financial regulators have not provided the long term stability he wants for crypto markets, pointing instead to the need for congressional legislation. In a Wednesday Fox Business interview, Hill said the SEC and CFTC have taken steps, but that regulatory activity was not enough compared with a market structure bill passed by Congress.

Hill said he hopes lawmakers can move a cryptocurrency market structure bill before the next session of Congress in 2027. He also argued that the regulators’ efforts have fallen short in the wake of the US Senate failing to pass the Digital Asset Market Clarity bill, which he referenced in his comments.

The comments come as Hill continues pushing for clearer rules for digital assets through congressional action rather than relying solely on agency approaches.
