OpenAI posts 722 math manuscripts from unreleased one-prompt model
OpenAI said it posed roughly 4,000 math problems to the internal system and published only outputs it judged significant enough to share, with the average result using compute equivalent to about three hours of ChatGPT Pro thinking.
OpenAI published 722 AI-written math manuscripts on GitHub, generated by an internal model it has not released publicly. A company spokesperson said most of the work traced back to a single prompt given to a single AI agent, though some outputs may have required multiple attempts.
The papers are organized into 372 families of related results, and OpenAI noted that the 722 count reflects manuscripts rather than a direct tally of individual solved problems. It also said it posed roughly 4,000 problems to the model and published outputs it judged significant enough to publish.
OpenAI further said the average result used compute equivalent to roughly three hours of ChatGPT Pro thinking. Decrypt reports that at least one mathematician questioned the claims, saying researchers should wait for the model to be released so others can replicate the results.
