Andrew Cuomo urges crypto industry to balance party support

Cuomo said crypto political action committees backed $54.3 million of Republicans in the 2026 election cycle, versus $26.2 million for Democrats.

Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo urged the crypto industry to balance its political support between US Republicans and Democrats if it wants federal crypto legislation to pass. Cointelegraph reports Cuomo said the industry’s heavy backing of Republicans has alienated Democrats whose support is needed for federal action.

Speaking at Token2049 in a panel with OKX CEO Star Xu, Cuomo said the industry believed investing heavily in the Republican Party was a route to getting the CLARITY Act passed. Cointelegraph also cited tracking by Tech Influence Watch of crypto-focused political action committees.

According to the report, those crypto PACs spent $54.3 million supporting Republicans in the 2026 election cycle, compared with $26.2 million supporting Democrats. Cointelegraph said Cuomo made the point while discussing the legislative push for the CLARITY Act.
