Royal Mail to cut up to 2,500 head office jobs by end of 2027
The postal company said the reduction would cover about 2% of its 131,000-strong workforce, while frontline roles are excluded from the plan.
Royal Mail announced plans to cut 2,500 head office and other supporting roles by the end of 2027 as it faces competition and continued declines in letter deliveries, according to BBC Business.
Royal Mail said the job cuts would affect about 2% of its 131,000-strong workforce, and that frontline postal workers, including posties and drivers, are not part of the restructuring.
The company said the workforce reduction is intended to improve efficiency, and would be delivered through voluntary redundancies and staff choosing to leave, adding in a statement that the changes are meant to remove duplication and enable further investment in customer service.
Royal Mail said it is in formal consultation with unions, and the CWU criticized the announcement, saying it was further evidence of a company demoralising staff and failing to deliver for customers.
