CN hits quarterly grain movement record with 7.94 million tonnes

The rail operator said it expects to sustain the momentum through winter after moving 7.94 million tonnes of grain from Western Canada in the quarter.

Canadian National Railway set a new quarterly record for grain movement, moving 7.94 million tonnes of grain from Western Canada in its third quarter, the company announced on Oct. 6, according to World Grain.

The third-quarter total surpassed CNs prior quarterly high of 7.48 million tonnes set in 2020.

World Grain also notes CN previously reported that it moved a record 33.8 million tonnes of grain from Western Canada during the 2025-26 crop year, exceeding 31.2 million tonnes in 2024-25.

CN said it remains focused on sustaining the momentum through winter while delivering safe, reliable and consistent service to producers, grain companies and supply chain partners.
