White House blocks Microsoft and other firms from using PERM
The administration said it will stop new and pending PERM applications from Microsoft and seven other companies tied to H1B hiring.
The White House has barred Microsoft, along with seven other technology firms, from hiring skilled international workers on a permanent basis through a widely used visa pathway, according to BBC Business.
Vice President JD Vance accused Microsoft and the other companies of fraud related to the H1B visa program and a process that can lead workers to become permanent US residents.
Microsoft said most of the H1B visas filed over the last financial year were for existing workers paid at the same level as local staff, and it made similar claims about other firms mentioned in the same dispute.
BBC Business reports that US Labor Secretary Keith Sonderling said the government will not process any new or pending Permanent Labor Certification Program, or PERM, applications from Microsoft and the seven other companies.
