Anthropic bans users from sustained and needless abusive behavior
The updated policy also forbids bullying, promoting self-harm, and creating non-consensual intimate imagery.
Anthropic said it is updating its usage policy to ban users from engaging in what it calls sustained and needless abusive behavior toward its AI systems, adding that it will allow its tools to end interactions where people are cruel.
The company said the change will be added to a list of forbidden conduct that also includes bullying others, promoting self-harm, and creating non-consensual intimate imagery, while it said the policy is intended for extreme cases of repeated abuse.
Anthropic said the rule would not apply to common versions of user frustration, pushback, dark creative themes, or model testing and research, and it noted it has previously ended interactions in rare cases.
The announcement has reignited debate about how people should communicate with AI tools, with social media users reacting both positively and critically, according to the BBC.
