CME to launch baseball futures tied to MLB performance indexes

The contracts, including standard and micro sizes valued at 10 times and one-tenth of the index, will begin trading with the 2026 postseason.

CME Group plans to introduce baseball futures on October 12, subject to regulatory review, expanding its derivatives offering into professional sports through contracts linked to performance indexes covering Major League Baseball's 30 teams.

Housing products would track CME FutureSports Performance Indexes, or FSPIs, built from official league data, developed in partnership with FutureSports, with trading set to begin with the 2026 postseason.

The initial lineup will cover the four teams competing in the League Championship Series, and CME said the contracts will be available in standard and micro sizes for different exposure levels, with standard contracts valued at 10 times the underlying MLB index and micro contracts representing one-tenth of the index value.

CME also said the futures will trade around the clock on a regulated exchange with transparent pricing, central clearing, and equal market access, adding that the contracts aim to apply established principles of price discovery and risk management to professional baseball.
