Flock Safety to cut about 18% of staff amid surveillance backlash

The job cuts are expected to eliminate roughly 270 roles, with employees leaving by the end of the month.

AI surveillance startup Flock Safety plans to cut about 18% of its workforce, people with direct knowledge of the plan said, as backlash over its AI-powered surveillance cameras and license-plate readers continues to mount, according to the Guardian Business.

The outlet reported that the reductions are expected to affect roughly 270 employees, and that departures are expected to occur at the end of the month.

People cited by the Guardian Business said the cuts followed a voluntary buyout program, and that the company had not yet made the plan public.

The Guardian Business also noted that in September Flock announced a voluntary separation program asking employees to apply if they wanted to leave.
