Nuclear ETF NUKZ slips after AI-driven power selloff
VettaFi said Range Nuclear Renaissance Index ETF, which tracks NUKZX, was up 7.4% on NAV at end-June before giving back 6.1% in July.
VettaFi spoke with Range Fund Holdings founder Tim Rotolo about the nuclear sector outlook, framing 2026 as a period of market digestion after a strong prior run and earlier repricing of AI-related timelines. Rotolo, who designed the VettaFi Nuclear Renaissance Index (NUKZX) that underlies the Range Nuclear Renaissance Index ETF (NUKZ), said nuclear equities entered 2026 after a big advance.
The outlet also pointed to ETF performance changes tied to the AI infrastructure selloff in July, when the fund gave back 6.06% on NAV. VettaFi attributed the move to power-name pressure, citing examples including Constellation, Vistra, and GE Vernova amid worries about data center returns and higher long-term rates.
By September 30, VettaFi said NUKZ was trading about 5% below its 2025 close. VettaFi also noted that early-stage reactor developers took the brunt of the repricing, with Oklo and NuScale down more than 40% for the year through September as investors weighed paths to commercial operations in the 2030s.
