Senior homeowners 62+ push housing wealth above $15 trillion
Housing wealth for seniors reached $15.34 trillion in Q2 2026, rising by $430 billion even as mortgage debt increased by $30 billion.
HousingWire reports that senior homeowners ages 62 and older reached a record $15.34 trillion in housing wealth in Q2 2026, surpassing $15 trillion for the first time, according to the NRMLA/RiskSpan Reverse Mortgage Market Index (RMMI).
The RMMI data showed that the quarter’s gain was driven by an estimated $430 billion, or 2.5%, rise in senior home values, partially offset by a $30 billion, or 1.2%, increase in mortgage debt held by seniors.
HousingWire also noted that the milestone comes as borrowing costs remain elevated.
NRMLA president Steve Irwin said in a statement that the RMMI result underscores how home equity represents a major financial resource for today’s older homeowners.
