Argentina asks maritime tribunal to halt Falklands oil development
Argentina has taken its dispute over Falklands oil into an international courtroom, seeking a halt to development of the Sea Lion project, the islands’ first commercial oil venture, OilPrice reports.
The Argentine government filed for provisional measures with the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea on Tuesday, aiming to stop British-authorized hydrocarbon activity in the Northern Falklands Basin.
The request shifts the dispute from threats toward legal action through the tribunal process, according to the report.
