Diesel now trades at an unusually large premium to gasoline
OilPrice says the diesel versus gasoline pricing relationship shifted about 20 years ago and has kept a larger premium since, raising questions about what changed.
OilPrice highlights that diesel fuel, which was typically cheaper than gasoline in the United States, has traded at a premium for roughly the past two decades.
The outlet says the size of that premium is now unusually large, with diesel costing substantially more than gasoline in today’s pricing.
OilPrice frames the difference as a longstanding break from the earlier norm, noting that the market now asks why the relationship flipped and why it has persisted.
